History

Mana Harmony

Natureways was founded in 1987 by the legendary Garth Thompson and has over 20 years experience in offering canoeing and walking safaris. Natureways was bought by Garth’s protogée James Varden in 1997, who has established himself as one of the leading guides in Southern Africa. Continually seeking to offer our guests the best wilderness experience available, Natureways merged with Shearwater Canoeing Safaris in 2004 which enables us to offer luxury mobile safari camps as well expeditionary styled canoe safaris on the Zambezi River.

Natureways has always been an owner run company and offers the hands on commitment of all its directors/owners (James, Ian, and Robin). With two owner-guides (James and Robin) together with perhaps the best team of professional river guides, we are able to offer personalised trips tailored to the requirments of each and every guest.  Combined with this, we have Ian overseeing the day-to-day administration, as well as our support teams in Harare, Kariba and Mana Pools. With a serious yet irreverent love for the bush, strong conservation ethics combined with a sense of courage and leadership, we have a wonderfully diverse team able to offer the best of African Safaris.

Looking to the future, Natureways is now in process of expansion and we look forward to sharing our plans with you for the exciting new Natureways safaris in the Southern Africa region.
